Ponlop Rinpoche's "Thank You for Condolences "
Dear friends,
Thank you so much for your condolences.
My mother really was a fortunate person and I am too.
For the last nine years of her life every morning she did Phowa practice, a Naga puja (a water offering) and the mandala offering. She also used her prayer wheel and now we realize what mastery she had achieved with its use.
Inside the prayer wheel is a piece of conch shell. Through the turning of the wheel this gets ground down. My mother’s action in turning the wheel had become so strong that she ground one piece of conch shell every week.
(see the picture)
My mother had wanted me to have her prayer wheel and so after her passing I used it for nearly three weeks now and hardly made a dent!
Many of the ground down pieces of conch she gave away to friends and people requesting blessings. Still we are lucky to have her conch mala with 180 pieces. His Holiness advised us to keep her Mala in the treasure chest because it is a precious and sacred object.
On the day of her passing in the morning, His Holiness visited, gave her advice and introduction to the natural mind. She sat in meditation posture before him and requested the empowerment of the foot. After she had received this she said, she was now very satisfied, her life is now successful and is only waiting for her breath to stop.
Fifteen minutes before she passed away, I read the Bardo text for the dissolution of the 5 elements to her, sitting at her bedside. She sat in meditation posture and chanted the prayer from her memory three times together with me. I introduced to her the Bardo vision and the natural mind.
After the prayers she got up and wanted to go to the bathroom. She had her whole body cleaned, went back to the bed, laid down and passed away within five minutes.
I think of her as a very fortunate person. She has left this life surrounded by prayers and I hope she will have an easy rebirth in a life where she will again be connected to the precious teachings.
Thank you again for your prayers, your thoughts and feelings in these last weeks. My prayers go out to my mother and to all sentient beings, especially the friends and their relatives who have also passed on.
